Andrew Thomas’s life insurer knows exactly when he arrives at his local gym. The company is notified when he swipes his membership card, and 30 minutes later, it checks that he is still there, tracking his location through his smartphone.
The insurance company has a vested interest in keeping Mr. Thomas alive and well. In return for sharing his exercise habits, his cholesterol level and other medical information, Mr. Thomas, a 51-year-old medical publisher who lives in Johannesburg, earns points, which translate into premium savings and other perks. By staying in good shape, it is less likely that Discovery, his insurer, will have to pay out his life and disability policies.
“Every Saturday morning, just for playing golf, I get points,” said Mr. Thomas, who said he received about 9 percent back on his life insurance premiums for each of the last five years. “It is trying to make people live a healthy lifestyle.”

Anxiety and worry are both attacks on the mind intended to keep you from serving the Lord. The enemy uses these weapons to press your faith down so you cannot live in victory. Many people are worriers but don’t even realize it. They may call it something else—but it is still worry. In addition to telling you to “fret not,” other passages warn you to “take no thought,” (Matthew 6:25), “be careful for nothing” (Philippians 4:6), and “cast . . . all your care” (1 Peter 5:7).
Matthew 6:27 says, And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the span of his life? The obvious point is that worry is useless. It does not accomplish any good thing. In that case, why worry and why be so anxious?

Social Security is a hot topic for concerned, aging boomers

Door-busting demand by aging baby boomers is leading financial advisors to build businesses focused solely on that demographic.
Some are forming practices to focus exclusively on Social Security consulting, while others are providing specialized education and resources to their peers.
Adolfo Rodriguez, managing partner of the A/R Financial Group, has been focusing more and more on Social Security maximization over the past six years, conducting seminars for the public and for other advisors, as a service to their own clients. He also works directly with individuals.
Rodriguez’s Social Security-related activities now comprise 30 percent of his practice—and that percentage is growing.
His public seminars are always full, he said, averaging about 400 attendees per year. About 35 percent of those attendees become paying clients for Social Security consultations, and some convert to full-fledged clients of his regular financial advising firm.
But Rodriguez said he is not trying to poach clients.
“I am not here to take clients away from their advisors,” he said. “I just want to be part of their financial team.”
He would like to see professional Social Security advisors become a regular part of the landscape, just like tax professionals.
